When I was 35 weeks pregnant, Jordan and I decided that we would go on a date night every Friday until the baby was born. We would usually go out to eat or to a movie or both. We just wanted to spend those precious last moments as a married couple with no responsibilities before our daughter was born. The Friday before I went into labor I was 38 weeks pregnant. Jordan and I had planned to go see a movie (I don't even remember the title anymore) and then out to eat.
When I came home from grocery shopping, I noticed that my cat, Sampson, was in my dog, Titus', kennel going to the bathroom! I yelled something mean to him and shooed him out of the kennel as fast as I could. About 30 minutes later I find him behind the couch licking himself. When I went to pet him he viciously growled at me and tried to scratch my hand. I was thinking this cat is crazy or somehow got rabies while I was away! I immediately called Jordan to tell him how strange the cat was acting and he brushed it off like it was no big deal. I figured that if the cat was still acting like this in the morning then I would call the vet on Monday. After Jordan got off work and came home he too notice how strange the cat was acting. I remember telling him that I was going to call the vet to get a second opinion about whats going on with him. I called the vet, 30 minutes before they closed and they told me some horrific news. The vet said that it sounded like Sampson had a bladder infection and that if it wasn't treated immediately his bladder could close and he would die! Of course, I frantically told Jordan that we had to go to the vet ASAP! Least to say, Sampson was furious that he had to be locked up in a kennel, had to endure a 20 minute car ride, and then had to be examined by the vet. He was so mean and ticked off that the vet had to sedate him to check out his bladder.
As you can imagine, my stress level was so high! Here we were sitting in the vet's office taking care of our sick cat on what was supposed to be our date night. After about an hour of being at the vet, the vet sent us home with specific instructions to get another urine sample and we were to bring it up to his office the following Monday. If we had only knew we would not be making it to the vet on Monday...
